Reach your goals in 2016 with the help of your pet

Reach your goals in 2016 with the help of your pet

Despite good intentions, 80% of people who make New Year’s resolutions will fail to keep them, with most of us giving up in the first week. It can be hard to stick to resolutions, especially if you go it alone, but involving your pet could be the secret to your success!

We’ve shared some of our top tips to help you stay motivated and to give you and your pet a head start in 2016.

1. Move More

Getting fit and healthy tops the chart as our most common New Year’s resolution and setting the same goal for your pet could make all the difference.

One in three dogs, one in four cats and one in four rabbits in the UK are overweight or obese and, like humans, overweight pets are at risk of health problems.

By working together, you and your pet can shed those extra pounds in no time, without even stepping foot into a gym - taking your pooch for a walk, for example, can help to burn an extra 255 calories per hour!

Try to mix up your route to keep it interesting and bring a ball launcher to up the anti! Exercise and fresh air is excellent for a healthy heart, joints and muscles.

2. Eat Better

A great way to achieve health goals is to feel accountable to something or someone and when you think about the responsibility you have to your four-legged friend, it might make you think twice before giving into temptation yourself.

Remember that healthy food doesn’t have to be bland and boring food – this applies to you and your pet. Our Naturals range will appeal to a variety of small pets who will go wild for the delicious and healthy treats without compromising their waistline or digestive system. Larger animals such as cats and dogs will also love the tasty Leaps and Bounds range packed full of protein.

As the saying goes, ‘enjoy everything in moderation’. There’s nothing wrong with a treat every now and then to reward good behavior - however, this doesn’t mean that you should be feeding your pet human treats, no matter how much they beg!

3. Buy Less, Save More

We all want the best for our pets, but you don’t need to go overboard to show how much you care. If you’re trying to make cut backs, then investing in premium products for your pet will help to keep your pet healthy and happy, whilst saving you money in the long run.

Whether it be toys, treats, clothing or bedding, good quality materials are safer and won’t need to be replaced as frequently. Furthermore, buying nutritious food will pay dividends in the end, resulting in fewer trips to the vet.

4. Get more sleep

Humans and pets have very different sleeping patterns, with some cats and dogs sleeping as much as 20 hours a day!

However, sleep is of equal importance to the physical health of both pet and owner. So, if getting enough sleep is this year’s goal then make sure you and your furry friend have your own comfortable bed to snuggle up in like one of the luxurious beds from 40 Winks Bedding. 5. Spend more time with the family

It’s all too easy to neglect your loved ones when we’re busy, so make sure you take time out each day to show them some love and attention. As well as going for a walk with your pet, pay them some extra attention by playing with them or giving them a groom. Animals need love too!

6. Travel more

Have you always wanted to go somewhere, but been put off by having a pet on board?

Travelling with a pet doesn’t need to be stressful. There are many simple travel devices such as pet carriers, harnesses or cooling accessories to make journeys more comfortable for your pet, meaning that you can enjoy your travels with your loved one by your side.
